In mid-2019 Irrfan was completely recovered. But on the 25th of April, 2020, when his mother passed away, he could not come in his funeral. Then suddenly his health deteriorated and he was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai, but he passed away on 29 April 2020.
Those who had been fighting cancer for the last two years, after recovered he did one last film and then they died. In this entire journey, one person remained with him was his wife Sutapa Sikdar.
After Irrfan Khan’s death, Sutapa wrote a passionate story for Irrfan and Irrfan’s fans.
She wrote that “How can I write this as a family statement when the whole world is taking it as a personal loss? How can I start feeling lonely when millions of people are joining us right now? I want to assure everyone that we have not lost anything, we have gained. It’s got the things he taught us, and now we’ll finally start implementing and developing it. Still, I want to try to fill things that people don’t already know.
It’s unbelievable for us but I’ll put it in Irfan’s words,” It’s magical “whether it’s there or not, and what he loved, he never loved a one-dimensional reality. The only thing. What I have got from him. He has spoiled me for life. His striving for perfection does not let me be ordinary in anything. There was a rhythm he always saw in everything, even the cacophony. And also in chaos, so I’ve learned to sing and dance. The music of that rhythm, even with my tone-deafening voice and two left feet.
Funnily, our life was a masterclass in acting, so by the time the theatrical entry of “uninvited guest” took place, I had learned, to see harmony in a cacophony. The doctor’s report was like the scripts I wanted to perfect, so I didn’t miss any details for his performance. We met some amazing people in this journey and the list is endless, but there are some I have to mention, our oncologist Dr. Nitesh Rohtogi (Max Hospital Saket) who initially held our hand, Dr. Dan Creel (UK), dr. Shidravi (UK), my heartbeat and my lantern in the dark Dr. Sevanti Limaye (Kokilaben Hospital).
It is difficult to explain how spectacular, spectacular, painful and exciting this journey has been. I think it has been a gap of 2 and 1/2 years which had its beginning, middle and culmination, Irrfan playing the role of an orchestra conductor, aside from our 35-year-old partner, we were not married, it was There was a union.
I see my small family, in a boat, with both of my sons Babil and Ayan, taking it in stride, with Irrfan directing them “wahan nahi, yahan se modo”, but since life is not cinema any more No retake, I sincerely wish the children had safely sailed this boat with the guidance of their father and Rock by through the storm. I asked my children, if possible, how they could relate the lessons taught by their father that are important to them.“
Sutapa’s son Babli Khan said, “Learn to surrender to the dance of uncertainty and believe in your faith in the universe.”
Ayan Khan said, “Learn to control your mind and don’t let it control you.”
Sutapa’s statement “Tears will flow as we will plant a victory queen tree, her favourite, the place where you put her to rest after a victorious journey. It takes time but it Will blossom and the scent will spread. And touch all the souls that I would call them family, not fans, for years to come.”
