Biography – Early Life & Career
Disha Vakani was born on 17 September 1978 (age 42 in 2021) in a Gujarati Jain family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Her father owns a theatre and was also a drawing teacher in the school. Disha’s family was associated with background theatre, because of this, she was attached to drama since childhood.
Disha once stated that when her father used to run the theatre, he was very upset for the actress. Because Gujarati girls did not like theatre at that time. Then Disha decided that she would grow up to become an actress and work in her father’s theatre.

Disha did her schooling from Siddhartha High School, Ahmedabad. After this, she graduated in Dramatic Arts in Diploma from Ahmedabad.
Acting Career of Disha Vakani
Along with working in theatre, Disha has also worked in several Gujarati plays such as Kamal Patel v/s Dhamal Patel and Lali Lila. From these plays, she got a lot of love of the Gujarati audience.
In 1997, Disha made her Bollywood debut with a B grade Bollywood movie Kamsin: The Untouched. Where she played a lead role and film was directed by Amit Suryavanshi.
In 1999 she made her appearance in Gujarati movie Pandadu Lilu Ne Rang Rato and Hindi movie Phool Aur Aag.
Again in 2002, she played a supporting actor in the Gujarati movie Paiso Maro Parmeshwar and in the Hindi movie Devdas.
She also played a successful supporting actor’s role in Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), Jaana β¦ Let’s Fall in Love (2006), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), C Kkompany (2008) and Love Story 2050 (2008).

Disha Vakani started her TV career with Khichdi show in 2004. In 2005, she made a guest appearance in a comedy show called Instant Khichdi.
Then she worked in a TV serial called Aahat in 2004-05. From 2006-2007 starred in the show Resham Dankh.

Despite trying her luck everywhere, she was not getting that popularity and love. But when one of her friends told her in 2008, Neela Tele Films is auditioning for the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah show.

Disha is married on 24 November 2015 to Mayur Padia, a chartered accountant in Mumbai. On 27 November 2017, a girl named Stuti Padia was born to them.
Her brother Mayur Vakani also acting in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma as her on-screen brother Sundarlal or Sundar.
TMKOC’s TRP was reduced significantly when Disha took its maternity leave in 2017.
